No one likes dealing with acne. For some people, no amount of face wash or cream seems to clear up the problem. Desperate for a solution, many turned to the doctor-prescribed drug called Accutane for help clearing up acne. If you are one of these people, you might now be dealing with unfortunate Accutane side effects, some of which you may never have been warned about.

Inflammatory bowel disease is one of the major side effects being reported on this medication. It begins with irritation in your GI tract, which then leads to bigger problems such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease.

Ulcerative colitis is determined when the lining of certain organs become so inflamed that surgery is required to remove them. Removal of the colon is almost certain in most cases of Accutane ulcerative colitis. Once removed, most patients have to wear a bag outside of the body that collects stool, or have a part of their small intestine fashioned into a pouch to collect the waste.

The prognosis for Crohn's disease is not any more pleasant. Narrowing of the intestine, as well as fissures in the skin often require surgery. Removing unhealthy pieces of the intestine and reconnecting the two healthy ends can help to improve symptoms but it is not a cure. Sometimes, large sections of the intestine need to be removed; sometimes, the entire large intestine is taken out. There is no cure for this disease.

These debilitating diseases are never easy for anyone to understand. However, learning that these crippling problems can be side effects of a drug that was suppose to improve your life can be unthinkable! Many users of this doctor-prescribed drug were aware of some of the milder Accutane long term side effects, but were not advised of these more life threatening outcomes.

In 2009, Hoffman Laroche, the company that makes and distributes the drug Accutane, removed their product from store shelves after a lawsuit had been filed and won against them. With these types of terrible side effects, it is no wonder many individuals are seeking out some type of justice. There have already been a number of successful lawsuits against the manufacturers by those who have taken Accutane and are now suffering the effects. Numerous lawyers are requesting that anyone suffering from inflammatory bowel disease after taking this medication come forward immediately.

While there is currently no Accutane class action lawsuit, individual claims are being made against the company due to the long term effects. Most of these lawsuits have been brought up against the company and not prescribing doctors; most doctors simply provided the information given to them from the companies.

If you have used Accutane and have been diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease, you may be entitled to compensation for your suffering, pain as well as other damages (such as loss of work or medical procedures). Get what you deserve by receiving help and compensation for the life altering effects of this medication.
